Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula

Monterey, CA

The graphic elements chosen for this 18-foot-wide carved crystal wall reflect the special interests of the hospital and its honorees as well as the spectacular beauty of life on the Monterey Peninsula. The mural blends the abstract imagery of DNA sequences with natural forms, such as an egret breaking into flight and sunlight dappling the waters of the bay. Inspiring quotes and a formal appreciation statement are carved into the crystal and accented with 23-karat gold leaf. The wall is illuminated by programmed LEDs that shift in a subtle 4.5-minute cycle from the pinks and yellows of sunrise to the brighter light of day, then to the darker blues of sunset.
